LEARNING ACTIVITIES ON GRADE 11 STUDENTS
ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE IN SOCIAL STUDIES
IMPACT OF NON-DIGITAL GAME-BASED LEARNING ACTIVITIES ON GRADE
11 STUDENTS ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE IN SOCIAL STUDIES

Rationale
Poor academic performance remains a persistent issue in many educational
institutions worldwide, including the Philippines. Various factors, including parental and
peer influence, cultural expectations, and the quality of education, contribute to student
outcomes. Education plays a crucial role in individual and societal development,
providing the skills and knowledge necessary to become a functional member of society.
Studies have shown that education can be a powerful tool to reduce poverty and
improve people's well-being. However, achieving high-quality education requires
significant investment and unwavering commitment from governments and
stakeholders.
Education is a top priority in the Philippines. Despite various government initiatives
and development plans, the quality of education in the country still needs improvement. To
address these challenges, the Department of Education (DepEd) implemented the
Enhanced K to 12 Basic Education Program.
Further, Filipino students' performance in the NAT Social Studies has been varied over
the years. However, there has been a general trend of improvement in student performance
since the implementation of the NAT in 2006. In the 2018 NAT, the mean percentage score
(MPS) for Filipino students in Social Studies was 54.18, which was higher than the MPS
of 53.76 in 2017.
