the benefits of tourism outweigh the negatives,
making tourism a positive force. With sustainable
models of tourism, people, culture, heritage, language,
wildlife, natural resources, our environment, and
everything else that makes this planet special are
protected.
The tourism industry is crucial for our economies, providing
one in ten jobs worldwide and contributing to 10% of the
global GDP. Yet, it also has a substantial impact on the
environment. According to the UN, if we continue with our
current patterns, by 2050, tourism could lead to a massive
increase of 154% in energy consumption, 131% in
greenhouse gas emissions, 152% in water consumption, and
251% in solid waste disposal.
Nature tourism – responsible travel to natural areas, which conserves the
environment and improves the welfare of local people. It is tourism based on the
natural attractions of an area. Examples include birdwatching, photography,
stargazing, camping, hiking, hunting, fishing, and visiting parks.

As the world emerges from the pandemic, destinations across the globe
are seizing the opportunity to reboot their tourism industries—with a
focus on sustainability. One of the countries leading the charge in this
endeavour is Thailand—and the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT)
in particular—which has charted a path based on the ambitious Bio-
Circular-Green Economy (BCG) Model. This strategic development
plan focuses not only on tourism but also on renewable energy, food,
and healthcare; encouraging these four industries to collaborate for
mutually beneficial outcomes. In the holiday sector, the goal is to be
environmentally conscious, and foster unforgettable experiences for
tourists while bolstering local communities.
