ROLES OF NURSE: Interlocking functions a nurse
undertakes to assist a client.
• Stranger- provides an accepting climate that builds trust
• Teacher-who imparts knowledge in reference to a need or
interest
• Resources person- provides specific needed information
• Counselor- provide guidance and encouragement to make
changes
• Surrogate- helps to clarify domains of dependence,
interdependence
• Leader- helps the client assume maximum responsibility
Specific roles variable within each nurse-client situation, being
limited only by the imagination and skill of the nurse.
Interpersonal Theory and Nursing Process
• Both are sequential and focus on therapeutic
relationship.

nurse and patient to collaborate on with the
