 A state is a territory with its own institutions and populations.

 Four (4) Elements of State

 Territory (geographical area)
 Population
 Government (enforces laws, levies taxes, its own currency, postal
services, and so on.)
 Sovereignty
 Internal Sovereignty - It refers to the state's ability to order and regulate
the activities of all people, groups, and institutions.
 External Sovereignty - Sovereign equality with all other states- it must
also have the authority and capacity to enter into treaties and other
agreements with other states.
 A nation can be defined as a population who shares a similar culture
and ideas. A nation is a group of people who have a strong sense of
unity and common consciousness.
 Benedict Anderson, termed nation as an "imagined community.”
 It means that the country allows one to feel a connection with a
community of people even if he or she will never meet them all. For
example, when you cheer for Filipino athletes at the 2019 SEA
Games, it is not because you know them personally. Rather, you
imagine your connection as members of the Filipino community.
Nation-State – is a sovereign state whose citizens or subjects are relatively
homogeneous in terms of factors such as language or common descent.
According to Claudio et al. (2018), Internationalization is considered as one aspect of the
globalization phenomenon.
