INFORMATIVE means
providing useful or valuable information.
INFORMATIVE means providing

An informative text educates readers about a
topic or subject. It is meant to inform others
using credible sources as evidence – facts,
statistics, and other research data.

Informative texts usually answer the five Ws:
who, where, when, what, and why. Sometimes,
they also describe “how” to do or accomplish
something.
TAKE NOTE!
It does not present bias judgments nor favorable
ideas. Also, it does not dwell in the concept of
convincing readers to do things that are contrary
to their will.

Can you distinguish facts from opinions?
FACTS
Facts are statements that can be proven.
1.Statistically, women live longer than men.
2.Most buses weigh more than most cars.
OPINIONS
Opinions are statements that reflect a
personal judgment.
1. Golf is boring.
2. Pasta is delicious.
3. English is the hardest subject.
WORDS TO IDENTIFY OPINIONS:
1. Biased Words (bad, worse, worst, good,
better ,worthwhile, worthless etc.)
2. Qualifiers (all, always, likely, never,
might, seem, possibly, probably,
should, etc.)
1. Purchasing a brand new car is a terrible waste of money.
2. Many wonderful vegetarian cookbooks are available in bookstores.
3. Of all the film version of Victor Hugo’s novel Les Miserables, the 1935
version is the best.
4. He is always talkative.
5. Volunteers of Habitat for Humanity are engaged in a worthwhile activity.
