STORM WATER DISCHARGE (RATIONAL FORMULAR)

=CIA/360
•C = (0.6 x 0.35) + (0.15 x 0.35) + (0.25 x 0.95) = 0.50
•A =80m x 20m = 1600
•I = 154mm (one in ten year daily rainfall for Ashanti region)

For Q dry or waste water discharge. Water consumption per person per day is
25litres.
•Population of people is 1000
•Percentage of waste water is 65%
Q dry = (0.65 × 25 × 1000)/(24 × 3600 × 1000)
= 1.88 × 10 –4 m3/s
•Q total = QSTORM + QDRY
= 0.95× + 1.88 × 10-4
= 2.83 × 10-4 m3/s
•Area (A1) = bd = 0.45× 0.45 = 0.2025 m2
•Area (A2) = πr2/2 = 3.142 × (0.225)2 /2 = 0.079 m2
•Area (A) = A1 + A2= 0.2025 + 0.079 = 0.28m2
•Wetted perimeter (P) = P1 + P2
•P1 = b + 2d= 0.45 + 2(0.45) = 1.35m
•P2 = πr= 3.142× 0.225 = 0.71m
•P = 1.35 + 0.71 = 2.06m
•Hydraulic radius = A/P= 0.28/2.06 = 0.14m
• Finding The Maximum Runoff Inper sec (Q)
Manning’s Formula
Q=1/n*A*R2/3*S1/2
Where:
A=Area
n=Manning’s roughness coefficient
R=Hydraulic radius
S=Longitudinal slope of channel.

Q =1/n*A*R2/3*S1/2
Where S is 1:450
Manning’s (n) is 0.011 (smooth concrete (trowel finish))
Q = 0.28× 1/0.011 ×(0.14) 2/3 × (1/450)1/2
Q = 0.32
Since the channel discharge (0.32) is greater than the total water discharge (2.83 × 10-4 m3/s),
