What’s a Safe and
Healthy
environment?
Healthy and Safe Environment
Providing a safe and healthy environment
for students is crucial for fostering a
positive learning experience. By
implementing effective safety measures and
promoting healthy habits, we can ensure
that students feel secure and supported in
their educational journey.
Who is responsible for creating a Safe and Healthy
Environment ?
Creating a safe school environment requires the
involvement and dedication of all school
stakeholders—from the students and their
families to the school staff and the immediate
school community.

• Students
• Families
• Local Community
• Teachers and School Staff
Students
Most students are against bullying and other
types of unacceptable behavior. They play a
significant role in dealing with student safety and
wellbeing (regardless of being a target, bystander,
or bully). With proper guidance, students can be
actively involved in developing and implementing
anti-bullying policies and promoting positive and
functional relationships.
Families
Families are the first educators of young people.
While schools take on the responsibility for students’
learning and skill development, it’s the parents,
extended family members, and caregivers who act as
primary role models for teaching young people
appropriate behavior and healthy relationships.
Local Community
The local community is also involved in ensuring a
safe school environment. Community organizations
and schools often work side-by-side to implement
various student wellbeing programs such as peer
support, cybersafety, student leadership programs,
bullying prevention initiatives, etc.
Teachers and School Staff
teachers and the school staff give students
opportunities to express their concerns about their
safety and wellbeing. School leaders are in charge of
putting effective strategies and policies in place for
preventing bullying, harassment, and other types of
unacceptable behavior.
What is the importance of having a Healthy and safe
environment in school?

'School safety' strives to protect students, teachers,

and other school personnel from natural and man-
made calamities such as violence, harassment,
bullying, and substance abuse. The goal of school
safety is to safeguard future generations from the
detrimental consequences of such events.

Government;
Public and Private
School Comparison
What is Public School and
what is Private school?
Public School
Public schools are learning institutions that are
funded by local, state and/or federal governments.
They offer general education opportunities to
children in kindergarten through grade 12, and
extracurricular activities are also part of many
public school programs.

Private School
Private schools (also known as 'independent
schools'), are schools that are not dependent upon
national or local government to finance their
financial endowment. Unless privately owned they
typically have a board of governors and have a
system of governance that ensures their
independent operation.
Public School
• Funding for public schools is a three tiered
process. The federal government allocates
certain amount of funds to each state for
education. The state government contributes
through income taxes, lotteries and property
taxes. The local government may also contribute
through taxation funds.

• Public schools have a larger student to teacher

ratio and have larger class sizes. This is often
due to budget cuts or inadequate funding. There
can be as many as 30 students in an elementary
classroom.
Private School
• Funding Private schools have to raise their own
funds and they get most of their funding through
student tuition, fundraising events, gifts and
endowments from donors.

• Private schools usually have smaller class sizes

and could have as many as 20-25 students in an
elementary classroom. A lower student ratio can
mean a more personalized interaction for
students and teachers.
Public School
• Teachers must meet all state-mandated
requirements and be highly proficient in their
subject area (i.e. have at least a BA with a major
in their subject). Most teachers have Masters
Degrees.

• Technology Depends on the school; can be very

modern or relatively outdated.

• Social Life Larger pool of people allows for more

social interaction. Opportunities for sports, clubs,
community service groups and other after-school
activities help broaden students' boundaries. Very
good preparation for social pressures of college.
Private School
• Teachers May or may not be certified but often
hold a graduate degree or higher education.

• Technology Depends on the school. Private

schools with higher tuition have more up-to-date
technology.

• Social Life More secluded groups. Students get to

know other students greatly. No preparation in
elementary or junior high schools. High school
shows a variety if in a co-ed school.
Public School
• Bullying Teachers are trained to intervene, and
most schools now have cameras to help deter
bullying. However it is hard to manage
classrooms with 25 students and in a litigious
society some teachers avoid conflicts.

• Curriculum is mandated and has a standard, it is

uniform.
Private School
• Bullying Handled by the principal or dean of
students. Usually punishments are suspension
or In School Suspension.

• Curriculum May create own Curriculum/syllabus
