intended for persons with impaired mobility

Mar 6, 2024 37
NL EN 81-40 Scope
 Safety requirements for
construction, manufacturing,
installation, maintenance and
dismantling of:

◦ electrically operated stairlifts:

e.g.
Chair; Standing platform; and
wheelchair platform

◦ affixed to a building structure,

◦ moving in an inclined plane; and

◦ intended for use by persons

with impaired mobility
Main Requirements
 Rated speed: 0.15m/s max

 Rated load:
◦ Minimum 115kg for person users and
◦ Minimum 250kg/m2 for wheel chair users

NL EN 81-41
 Safety requirements for
construction,
manufacturing,
installation, maintenance
and dismantling of:

◦ electrically powered vertical

lifting platforms

◦ affixed to a building
structure

◦ intended for use by persons

with impaired mobility
Scope of NL EN 81-41
 travelling vertically between
predefined levels along a
guided path whose inclination
to the vertical does not exceed
15°;

 intended for use by persons

with or without a wheelchair;

 with enclosed liftways;

 with a speed not greater than

0,15 m/s;

 with platforms where the carrier

is not completely enclosed.

Accessibility Improvement of
Existing Lift
Scope of NL EN 81-82
 This European Standard provides rules on
how to apply EN 81-70 to existing lifts to
improve their accessibility for persons
including persons with disability.
NL EN81-31
Accessible Only Goods Lifts
Scope of NL EN 81-31
 This European
Standard covers:
◦ accessible goods only
lifts;
◦ With rated speed not
exceeding 1m/s
◦ With rated load
exceeding 300 kg; and
◦ Not intended to move
persons.
Types of Accessible Goods only Lifts
 Type A, where the
intended use is bound to
the following two
simultaneous conditions:
◦ Maximum rated speed:
0,30 m/s;
◦ Maximum travelling height:
12 m;

 Type B, where one of the

conditions mentioned
above is not fulfilled.
Some important information
 Automatic power operated doors shall not be
used.

 Type A could be platform and not necessary

enclosed cabin
NL EN81-22
Inclined Lifts
NL EN81-22
 Safety rules for the construction
and installation of permanently
installed new electric lifts,
 with traction or positive drive,
serving defined landings levels,
 having a vehicle designed to
convey passengers or passengers
and loads, suspended by ropes
or chains and travelling in a
vertical plan along guide rails
that are inclined at an angle of
between 15° and 75° in relation
to the horizontal.
NL EN 81-22 Limitation Due to State
of Art
 Inclination: a variation in
inclination is permitted for
the travel path;

 travel path: confined

within the vertical plane;

 Maximum capacity of the

car: 7500 kg (100
passengers);

 maximum rated speed (v):

4 m/s.
EN81-22: Requirement
 Same principle of part 20 with the differences
due to inclination, such as:
◦ Formula, for the clear distance needed in the
headroom: 0.035V2 Sin∝
