Finding the Nth Term

of a Sequence and
Differentiating
Expression from
Equation
The four basic operations (Addition,
Subtraction, Multiplication and Division)
are commonly used in a sequence of
numbers. In the Fibonacci numbers (a set
of numbers that starts with one or a zero,
followed by one), you start with the first
two numbers. The succeeding numbers
are the sum of the previous two.
Therefore, following the pattern, the next
three terms in the sequence are 13,21,
and 34. Try to find the next three terms.
Direction: Name the solid shape that can
be formed by each net. Write the answers
on a sheet of paper.
Numbers in (a), figures in (b), and
letters in (c) are arranged in a
definite order. Using the given
sequences:
1. What is the next number in
(a)?
2. What is the next figure in (b)?
3. What is the next letter in (c)?
The Nth Term of a Sequence
A sequence is a set of numbers
written in a special order by the
application of a definite rule. Each
number in the sequence is called a
term. Patterns and rules will help
us to continue a given sequence of
numbers, figures, or to fill in the
missing numbers or symbols.
Direction: Supply
the next three
letters, figures,
symbols, or
combination of
numbers and letters
in the following
patterns. Do this on
a sheet of paper.
Direction: Solve each problem on a sheet of paper.
1. Complete the pattern: 7, 12, 22, ____, 57, 82, ____.

2. What are the missing numbers in the sequence 5, 10,

8, 13, ____, 16, ____?

3. Given the sequence 9, 6, 3, 0, …, at what nth term

will the number become -24?

4. What is the sum of the first 15 odd numbers?

5. Jacob saved ₱100 in March, ₱200 in April, ₱300 in

May and so on until December. In which month did he
save ₱1,000? How much did Jacob save for 10 months?
Read and solve each problem. Then, write the
rule for finding the nth term on a sheet of
paper.
1. In a small theatre, the first row has 10

2. Mr. Dela Luna increased his son’s
allowance who is studying in a university.
He gave him ₱ 3,000 on the first month. ₱
3,300 on the second month, ₱ 3,600 on
the third month and so on.

A. How much will his son receive on the

7th month?
B. How much will he receive in 10
months?
Rule: __________
Direction: Fill in each
blank with the correct
term to complete the
statement. Choose from
the words inside the
box. Write the answers
on a sheet of paper.
