Text structures (WDPI, 2012) refer to the way authors
organize information in
text. Recognizing the underlying structure of texts can
help students focus attention on
key concepts and relationships, anticipate what is to
come, and monitor their
comprehension as they read.

The Lost Dog

A young boy named Billy is playing in the park with his dog, Sparky.
Sparky runs off after a squirrel, and Billy chases after him. Billy loses sight of
Sparky in the woods, and he starts to panic. Billy searches the woods for
Sparky, but he cannot find him. He calls and calls, but Sparky does not come.
Billy is starting to lose hope. Billy is about to give up when he hears a bark.
He turns around and sees Sparky running towards him. Billy is so happy to
see Sparky, and he hugs him tightly. Billy and Sparky walk back to the park.
Billy is so relieved to have Sparky back, and he promises to never let him out
of his sight again. Billy and Sparky live happily ever after.

I woke up early that morning, excited for the day ahead. I was going to the animal
shelter to adopt a dog! I had been wanting a dog for as long as I could remember, and I
had finally convinced my parents to let me get one.
I arrived at the animal shelter and was greeted by a friendly woman who showed
me around. There were so many dogs to choose from, all different shapes and sizes. I
couldn't decide which one I wanted!
Finally, I saw a small, brown and white dog sitting in the corner. He was wagging
his tail and looked up at me with big, brown eyes. I knew right then and there that he was
the one for me.
I named him Lucky, and he quickly became my best friend. We went on walks
together, played fetch in the park, and even slept in the same bed. Lucky was always there
for me, no matter what.
I'm so glad I decided to adopt Lucky that day. He brought so much joy into my
life, and I'll never forget the day I got him.

The steps involved in making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich:

1. Gather your ingredients and supplies.

2. You will need two slices of bread, peanut butter, jelly, a knife, and a plate.
3. Spread peanut butter on one slice of bread.
4. Spread jelly on the other slice of bread.
5. Put the two slices of bread together, with the peanut butter and jelly facing
each other.
6. Cut the sandwich in half, if desired.
7. Enjoy!

The Importance of Vaccination

Vaccination is the process of exposing the body to a weakened or inactive form of a

virus or bacteria in order to develop immunity to the disease. Vaccines work by stimulating
the body's immune system to produce antibodies that fight off the disease.
There are many benefits to vaccination. Vaccines can help prevent serious diseases,
such as measles, mumps, and rubella. They can also help protect people who are at high risk
of getting sick, such as infants and young children. Vaccines can also help reduce the spread
of disease in the community.
There are some risks associated with vaccination, but these risks are generally very
small. The most common side effects of vaccination are mild and go away on their own
within a few days. More serious side effects are rare.
The benefits of vaccination far outweigh the risks. Vaccines are one of the most
effective ways to prevent disease and protect public health.

The Overwhelmed Student

Once upon a time, there was a high school student named Sarah who was feeling overwhelmed. She
had too much homework, she was stressed about tests, and she was starting to feel like she couldn't keep up.
One day, Sarah was talking to her friend, and her friend told her about a time when she felt the same
way. Her friend said that she had started to take control of her time and to prioritize her tasks. She also said
that she had started to ask for help when she needed it.
Sarah decided to try her friend's advice. She started by making a list of all of her tasks and deadlines.
She then prioritized her tasks and started working on the most important ones first. She also started to ask for
help when she needed it.
At first, it was hard for Sarah to change her habits. But after a while, she started to feel more in
control and less overwhelmed. She was able to finish her homework on time, she did well on her tests, and she
started to feel less stressed.
Sarah learned that it is important to take control of your time and to prioritize your tasks. She also
learned that it is okay to ask for help when you need it.

How to reduce food waste?

Food waste is a major problem worldwide. It is estimated that one-third of all food

1. Planning meals ahead of time and only buying the food you need.
2. Storing food properly to prevent it from spoiling.
3. Donating or composting food that is about to go bad.
4. Educating people about the problem of food waste and how to reduce it.
5. These are just a few of the many solutions that can be used to reduce food waste.

By working together, we can make a difference and help to create a more sustainable
future.

The Tortoise and the Hare

Once upon a time, there was a tortoise and a hare who were always arguing about
who was faster. The hare was always boasting about how fast he could run, while the
tortoise was always saying that he could win if he just kept going.
One day, they decided to have a race to see who was really faster. The hare took off
at a sprint, while the tortoise slowly started to make his way down the track. The hare was
so far ahead that he decided to take a nap under a tree. He figured that the tortoise would
never catch him.
The tortoise kept going, slowly but surely. He didn't stop or slow down, even when
he saw the hare sleeping. Finally, the tortoise crossed the finish line, just as the hare was
waking up.
The hare was very surprised to see that the tortoise had won the race. He realized
that he had been so confident in his own speed that he had underestimated the tortoise's
determination.

The dog was a small, brown and white terrier mix. He was a stray, and he had been
living on the streets for as long as he could remember. He was skinny and dirty, and he had a
few scars from fights. But he was also friendly and playful, and he loved to be around
people.
One day, the dog was walking down the street when he saw a little girl crying. He
went up to her and licked her face, and she stopped crying. The little girl's name was Lily,
and she took the dog home with her. She gave him a bath and a new collar, and she named
him Lucky.
Lucky was a good dog, and he loved Lily very much. He was always there to greet
her when she came home from school, and he would sleep at the foot of her bed every night.
Lily was very happy to have Lucky in her life, and she knew that he would always be there
for her.

6 Lots of students fail classes. Some students

fail because the work is too hard for them.
Other times they may fail because they are
lazy, and don’t do any work. Another
reason why students may fail is if they don’t
go to school. If you’re not in class, you may
miss a lot. Many students fail classes every
quarter. What text structure is this?
