eep Helps Us Learn

Sleep Helps Us Learn
We humans spend about one-third of our lives asleep. This may sound like a lot
of time, but it is not wasted.
Sleep helps us stay healthy, and it also helps our brains remember. Our brains
need good sleep to remember what we do and learn during the other two-thirds
of our lives when we are awake.
Besides keeping us healthy, some new research shows that a good night’s
sleep helps make us more intelligent.
Scientist Chiara Cirelli told VOA that sleep is when the human brain mixes
information it has learned while awake into its general collection of knowledge.
The research findings are the result of more than ten years of work at the
University of Wisconsin – Madison.
The Mayo Clinic is a respected research hospital in Rochester,
Minnesota. It gives these six suggestions for getting a good night’s
sleep:
1. Stay on schedule.
3. Do you use any of the Mayo clinic's six suggestions for getting a
good night's sleep? Why? Why not?
3. Are you a deep sleeper or a light sleeper? How do you know this?

The Benefits of Reading Every Day
Numerous studies have shown that reading, even for pleasure, can make a huge difference in our
lives. Some scientists say that reading every day can actually change the physical structure of the
brain and protect it from diseases such as Alzheimer’s.
Although the benefits of reading are many, here are some reasons you should start reading on a
daily basis:
1. Stress Reduction
Many psychologists believe that reading is the best way to relax. It can be a healthy escape from the
hustle and bustle of everyday life. A well-written book or article can transport you to other realms
and help you loosen up by lowering your heart rate and easing tension in your muscles.
3. Vocabulary Expansion
The more you read, the more words you are exposed to. This will expand your mental dictionary. It is
especially beneficial for non-native speakers as they can see words used in all sorts of different
contexts and settings, which can be more valuable than looking up their definitions in a dictionary.
Questions
1.
