Definition Adjectives

Adjectives or commonly referred to as adjectives are word forms that


function to describe nouns or nouns in a sentence. Adjectives in a sentence are
used to describe nouns in singular or plural forms.
Usually adjectives come before nouns, but adjectives can also come after
nouns or stand alone if they function as a complement or adverb in a sentence.
Some examples of adjectives are smart, tall, old, rich, lazy, and others. So,
here is an example of using an adjective in a sentence:

- Berry is a handsome boy (sentence with a singular noun)


- Kalea and Kalula are smart boys (sentences with plural nouns)
Gradable Adjective

Gradable Adjective is a form of adjective in English whose


meaning can be changed, either strengthened or weakened.

Words that are often used and become a sign of a Gradable are:

- very
- Extremely
- Rather
Gradable Usage Example :

- I see a very big tree at the end of the road


- The weather is extremely cold
- My work is rather good
- This lesson is so important to master
Non-Gradable Adjective

Non-Gradable Adjective is a form of adjective in English which cannot be modified or


changed anymore, because its meaning is extreme or strong enough.

Words that are often used as Non-Gradable Adjectives:

- Freezing
- Impossible
- nuclear
- External
- westerns
Examples of Non-Gradable Usage :

- The weather is freezing, I need something that warms the body

- He likes western cuisine

- I need external memory for my laptop

- It’s impossible for me to buy those shares

- Do you understand the matter of nuclear?
