To keep excellent splice quality, regular cleaning and
inspection are required. Especially cleaning should be
performed before and after the each use. We recommend
your Splicer to be checked through our service center
once in a year.
Daily Cleaning &
Check-up Cleaning
- Turn of the Z2C before maintenance work.
- Clean each part with cotton swab(ear buds)
moistened with Isopropyl Alcohol.

Importance of Electrode replacement

Question from the customer

It's a pain to change out the electrodes, so sometimes we end up using
them even past the recommended number of connections. What kinds
of problems might this cause?

Answer from the engineer

When electrodes are used beyond their recommended number of
splices, silica deposits accumulate on the electrode tips. The silica is an
insulator and can affect the arc direction. Together these changes
create arc instability which can increase splice loss. Some workers try
to remove the silica deposits with sandpaper or other abrasive
materials. But this risks changes the shape of the electrode tip, which
again can lead to further instability of the arc.

Cleaning EUI Connectors

Regular cleaning of EUI connectors will help maintain optimum
performance. There is no need to disassemble the unit.
IMPORTANT: If any damage occurs to internal connectors, the module
casing will have to be opened and a new calibration will be required.

WARNING: Looking into the optical connector while the light source is
active WILL result in permanent eye damage. EXFO strongly
recommends to TURN OFF the unit before proceeding with the cleaning
procedure.

EXFO OTDR General Maintenance
To clean EUI connectors:
 Remove the EUI from the instrument to expose the connector
baseplate and ferrule.

 Moisten a 2.5 mm cleaning tip with one drop of isopropyl alcohol

(alcohol may leave traces if used abundantly).
 Slowly insert the cleaning tip into the EUI adapter until it comes out on
the other side.
