- Use modifiers like very and quite to make adjectives and adverbs stronger
or weaker. The modifier goes before the adjective or adverb.

- The woodcutter was terribly sad.


- The children were quite tired.
- The modifieres quite, fairly and really are more common in spoken
language.
- Modifiers can be used to soften a statement, making it less direct.
- He is boring----- He is not very interesting.
