Adverb of Manner
Adverb of Manner let us know how things turn out. Description of how is usuallay
placed after the main verb or after the object.

Literary Use

Adverb of Degree
Adverb of degree tells us the intensity of something. Adverbs of rank are
usually placed before an adjective, adverb, or verb that is modified by the
adverb of the grade although there are some exceptions. The words too,
enough, very, and extremely are examples of level descriptions.

Enough Use
(nough can be used as both an adverb and an article)

● Enough as an adverb

Enough as an adverb, which means "to the necessary degree", is placed after the
adjective or adverb that is modified, and not before adjectives like other adverbs.
Enough can be used in both positive and negative sentences.
EXAMPLE

• Is your coffee hot enough?


• This box isn't big enough.
● Enough as the article

Enough as an article, meaning "as much as necessary," comes before the


noun it modifies. It is used with countable nouns (in the plural form) and
uncountable nouns.
EXAMPLE

• We have enough bread.
• You have enough children.
• They don't have enough food.

(Too is always an adverb, but it has two different meanings, each
with its own usage pattern)

as an adverb meaning "also" is placed at the end of the phrase it modifies.

EXAMPLE

• I would like to go swimming too, if you

• Can I go to the zoo too?
• Is this gift for me too?

Too as an adverb meaning "too" comes before the adjective or adverb that is
modified by too. This word can be used in both positive and negative sentences.

EXAMPLE

• This coffee is too hot.


• He works too hard.

Use very
Very is placed before the adverb or adjective to make it stronger.
Example :
● The girl was very beautiful.
● The house is very expensive.
● He worked very quickly.
● She runs very fast.

too indicates that there is a problem.
Example :
● He speaks very quickly.
● He speaks too quickly for me to understand.
● It is very hot outside.

Inversion with negative adverbs
Generally, the subject comes before the verb. However, some negative adverbs
can cause inversion when placed at the beginning of the clause. The order is
reversed and the verb is placed before the subject. This inversion or reversal is
only used in writing, not in conversation.
