Covid-19
•Please do not come to a lab session if you have any of
the following symptoms:
•A high temperature (>38C)
•A new, continuous cough
•A loss or change to your sense of smell or taste
•If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, please
arrange for a Covid-19 test ASAP. https://www.gov.uk/get-

Health and Safety precautions in the
Sport Science Labs

•Hand sanitising stations throughout the labs


•PPE is available in each lab for anyone who wants to
wear it
•PPE to be worn in accordance with the risk assessment
for each activity
•Disinfection of lab equipment and hotspots between each
lab class
•Deep clean of labs at the end of each day

•Refer to the handbook before practical lab work.

Preparation for Lab Sessions

•Check BREO for guidance and instructions on your


session
•Dress appropriately -No jeans or flip flops
•No hangovers or heavy meals
•A consent form and medical questionnaire must be
completed online.

Arriving for a lab session
•Arrive at least 10 mins before the start of your lab session
•Wait outside the entrance to the labs to allow classes to
exit from the labs

Once inside the labs…
•Lab sessions and room displayed on the whiteboard, right-hand side
as you enter
•Place all of your belongings in or on the lockers (tokens are provided)
• You may take only the necessary items into the labs
• Mobile phones must not be taken into the labs

•Wait in the corridor until your tutor instructs you to enter the lab

Lab Rules
The full list of rules cab be found in your induction handbook
•Follow risk assessments and standard operating
procedures at all times
•Wear appropriate PPE as instructed by your tutor and lab
staff
•No food or drink in the labs or corridor
•Water is allowed if in sports bottles

•Don’t sit on benches/tables/equipment


•Do not touch equipment other than that you are using

•Make your tutor or lab staff aware if your health changes

Health and safety
Clean equipment
• You will be given instructions in your session
Waste bins
• Clinical waste placed in orange sacks
• Sharps to go in yellow sharps boxes
• Used PPE to go in clinical waste bags
First Aid
• Lab technicians are all FA trained, most SES are staff too
• Defibrillator in Lab B, far wall
Fire
• Fire exits Lab C and main entrance
• Assembly points -rear carpark or grass area by R block
• To raise the fire alarm -near building entrance and Lab C

Please report any accidents, incidents and near misses to a member of staff
Exiting the labs
•Remain in the labs until instructed to leave
•Collect your belongings from your locker
•Walk to the exit doors (also where you entered the labs)
•Sanitise your hands
•Exit the labs
