CONSERVATION OF ENERGY
We need energy all the time. However, energy is
costly. So, we should help conserve it. Conserving energy
means using it wisely. Let us study first the Law of
Conservation of Energy. Scientist have observed that energy
seems to act in a certain uniform way out and they
expressed this observation in t he Law of Conservation of
Energy. Energy cannot be created nor destroyed; can only
be transformed, but the total amount of energy never
changes. Let us take the pendulum as an example. A
Swinging pendulum has both potential and kinetic energy.
These two forms continually interchange during the
process.
Ways of Conserving Energy
1. Turn off lights when not needed and keep the bulbs
clean.
2. Use fluorescent light instead of incandescent bulbs.
They are more energy-saving and give-off light.
3. Turn off and unplug appliances when no one is
using it.
4. Do not frequently open or close the refrigerator to
reduce the amount of energy used to cool the freezer.
Ways of Conserving Energy
5. Unplug the electric iron when you are almost done
ironing your clothes. The iron has enough stored heat to
press the remaining clothes.
6. Switch off electric fan or aircon during cool season.
7. Let the frozen foods melt before cooking it. This will help
reduce the time needed to cook them.
8. Prepare all ingredients before starting to cook.
9. In cooking, switch stove to “low” when the food starts to
boil.
10. Use water wisely. Never leave a faucet dripping
Write TRUE if the statement about energy
conservation is true and FALSE if not true.
1. Turn off television when no one is watching.
2. Use electric fan overnight during cool season.
3. Switch off lights when not needed.
4. Always open your refrigerator to melt frozen
water.
5. Melt frozen foods before cooking.
Answer YES if the question tells about conserving energy
and NO if not.
1. Is it good to cook immediately frozen foods?
2. Are you going to turn off the television when you’re not
watching it anymore
3. Are you conserving energy if you switch off the light
when you are asleep?
4. Is it wise to leave a faucet dripping or flowing?
5. Is it right to avoid frequent opening of the refrigerator?
Energy should be conserved because it is costly.
• Conserving energy means using it wisely.
• The Law of Conservation of Energy states that
energy cannot be created nor destroyed; it can only
be transformed, but the total amount of energy
never changes.
• There are many ways of conserving energy and we
should help conserving it
Fill up the missing words to be able to construct
a statement that shows energy conservation.
1. Turn _____ light when not in use.
2. Use _____ lights instead of incandescent
bulbs.
3. Use water _____
4. _____the electric iron when you are almost
done ironing your clothes.
5. _____ the frozen foods before cooking
List the ways on how to conserve
energy.
