“Through “Colors of Thandiwe”, Thandiwe aims to reclaim the self-love
of the African woman who is often excluded from beauty standards in
her own country. She also explores how the individual can lose their
identity to culture. In her work Thandiwe showcases Africa’s unique mix
of vibrant cultures, textiles and beauty norms. The accessories are
inspired by the objects Kenyans interact with in their everyday life,
where one object can have multiple uses beyond its original purpose.”

PROVIDE INFORMATIONAL &
CONTEXTUAL INFORMATION
• Define difficult or technical terms
• Either in the document itself or in the Glossary

• Provide further information

• Clarify anything complex, potentially confusing, or likely to
be overlooked because it appears meaningless. A good
rule of thumb is that if you are not sure what something is,
it is likely your audience won’t either.
• Ex. If indicating a university degree, note the standing of
the university (i.e. how it ranks). If mentioning a style of
graphic design, explain that style. Etc.
DRAW THE READER’S EYE
TO KEY INFORMATION
Ask yourself: Should certain information…
• Be highlighted in some way
(in bold, italics, with an underline, etc.)?
• Be quoted for immediate grasp?
• Be illustrated with a graphic
(photo, explanatory graph, etc.)?
• Be placed in its own section (sidebar, bottom bar, etc.)?
