MILKMAID
AND HER
PAIL
THE MILKMAID AND HER PAIL

Once upon a time, there was a

milkmaid named Molly who lived
in a small village. Every day, she
would go out to milk the cows
and bring the milk back to her
home to make butter and
cheese.
One day, as she was walking
back from the field with her
milk pail balanced on her
head, she began to daydream
about all the things she could
do with the money she would
earn from selling her products
at the market.
She thought to herself, “This milk
is so rich and creamy. When I
make butter from it, I can sell it at
the market for a good price. With
that money, I can buy some eggs
to hatch and raise some
chickens. Once they are grown, I
can sell them and make even
more money.
With all that money, I
can buy myself a
beautiful new dress to
wear to the fair. I will
look so pretty, and all the
young men will want to
dance with me.”
As she walked and
daydreamed, imagining
herself as the queen of the
fair, she started skipping in
excitement, causing the
pail to fall from her head
and spill all its contents on
the ground.
In an instant, the
milk, butter, eggs,
chicks, and her
dreams all vanished,
leaving her with
nothing but regret.
