• Mollusca are terrestrial or aquatic (marine or fresh
water) having an organ-system level of
organization
• Mollusca is the second largest phylum in kingdom
Animalia with more than 72,000 species
registered
• Their body is covered with an unsegmented
calcareous shell. They possess a distinct head,
muscular foot and visceral hump.
General Features
• Bilaterally symmetrical, triploblastic and coelomate animals.

• Possess specialized respiratory and excretory organs
• Anterior head region possess sensory tentacles
• Examples - Pila, Pinctada, Sepia, Loligo, Octopus, Aplysia, Dentalium and

Pila
Commonly known as apple snail
