REMAINS
Refers to the parts or traces of an
organism that are left behind
after it dies.
EVOLUTION
The process by which living organisms
change over time through genetic
variation, natural selection, and other
mechanisms.
IMPRINT
A mark or impression left behind by
an organism in sediment or rock.
PALEONTOLOGIST
A scientist who studies fossils to
understand the history of life on
Earth.

PRESENTATION
How do fossils
show that evolution
happens?
How does sedimentary rock
form?
It is formed when particles of sand or soil
are deposited in horizontal layers.

They are tiny pieces of sand, mud, and

even tiny bits of shells or plants. They also
often occurs as mud or slit hardens.
Law of Superposition
This principle states that in any undisturbed
sequence of sedimentary rocks, each layer is
older than the one above it and younger than
the one below it.

The layers of rock form in a chronological

order, with the oldest rocks at the bottom and
the youngest rocks at the top.
There are 2 different method to
determine the age of rocks.
Carbon-14 Dating
Relative Dating
Relative Dating
• It helps us figure out the order of events
by looking at the position of rocks.
• Comparing the age of different rocks or
fossils based on their positions in the rock
layers.
Carbon-14 Dating
• Also known as radiocarbon dating, relies on
the radioactive decay of carbon-14 in
organic materials. It provides an absolute
age estimation based on the amount of
carbon-14 remaining in the sample.

Direction: Create a 5-7 sentence essay based on this situation and questions.

You have been given an opportunity to travel in the future for several
hundred years. Use your imagination to think of organisms that might be
living on earth in that particular time. Considering the environmental
disturbances, calamities, and changes that occurred over time, why do you
think this organism would still be alive? How important is adaptation as a
mechanism for the survival of your chosen species.
How are fossils form?
Do all fossils have a
complete shape?
Some fossils do preserve the entire
shape of an organism.

Like archaeopteryx fossil an extinct

genus of bird-like dinosaurs that lived
during the Late Jurassic period,
approximately 150 million years ago.
Many fossils represent only fragments or
parts of an organism.

These fragment fossils, ranging from

faunal bones and teeth to plant remains and
trace fossils, serve as invaluable tools in
understanding Earth's history, evolution,
paleoenvironments, and biodiversity
How do you think
these fossil records
affect the evolution?
How does fossil used to
determine information
about species?
