CONTINUOUS TENSION IN

EXERCISE
PRESENTED BY IC FITNESS CLUB – AN INSTITUTE OF FITNESS SCIENCE
WWW.ICFITNESSCLUB.COM
DEFINITION

• A muscle is said to be under continuous tension when LOG and LOR are
directly proportional to each other throughout the Range of Motion(ROM).

LOR

LOG
LETS UNDERSTAND WHAT IS LOG?

• LOG stands for Line of Gravity. It’s a line in which gravity pulls the object
towards itself.
• It is always perpendicular to the floor.

• For Example
• If you drop a object, such as ball, ruler anything It will follow a straight line
to the floor, and that is due to Line of Gravity.
UNDERSTANDING LOR

• LOR stands for Line of Resistance. It’s a line in which we oppose the gravity
and put our efforts.
• For example, we perform deadlift, we perform the squats, we do the bench
press.
• We have 2 faces of a rep, one is towards the gravity and 2nd is against the
gravity.
• In against the gravity phase we put efforts and challenges the muscle.
CONTINUED…

• Against the gravity phase is known as Concentric Phase.

• So the pathway of movement in the concentric phase is known as the LOR
(Line of Resistance).
• It can be Circular or a straight line.

Circular
LOR

LOG
LOR Straight Line
LOG LOR

• Straight Line pathway of LOR (Line of Resistance).

• In Straight Line Pathway LOR is Directly Proportional to LOG thus we can say in
all those exercises in the LOR and LOG is Directly matches each other, there we get
the Continuous Tension.
CIRCULAR PATHWAY DOES NOT
CHALLENGE THE GRAVITY 100%.
CONCLUSION
• In all those exercises in which we get the straight line pathway, there we can
say that we will get the continuous tension.
• In the Circular Pathway of Exercise, initial and end degrees of range of
Motion do not challenge the Gravity thus we do not get the continuous
tension.
