Which is harder to move?

Soccer ball Vehicle

Which one weighs lighter?

Man on the moon Man on earth

Which is faster to move?
Which fall faster?

WHY EVERYTHING THAT
GOES UP, COMES
DOWN?
GRAVITY
Objective:

•Infer how gravity

affects the movement
of different object.
Explore (Individual activity)

Activity: THE FALL

Materials needed:

Ball
Notebook
Stone
Crumpled paper
Procedures:

1. Get any object near

you. Raise the object at
a certain height.
2. Quickly remove your hand
leaving the object on top.
Observe what happens to the
object.
3. Using the same object,
throw it upward. Observe
what happens to the
object.
Guide questions:
1.What happened to the object
when the hand was removed?

When the hand was removed

that ball fell to the ground
2.What happened to the object when it was
thrown upward?

When the ball was thrown

upward, it fell to the ground
3. Based from figure 1 and 2, what
common thing happened to the
object?

When the hand was removed while

holding the ball, or the ball was thrown
upward, it still fell to the ground.
4. Why did the object behave that way?

The ball falls to the ground because

gravity pulls it downward.
5. Describe gravity.

Gravity is a force that pulls all object

downward.
Explain

GRAVITY
Is a force that pulls
all object towards the
ground or the surface
of the earth.
Explain

Without gravity,
there will be no life
on earth.
Why
Sir Isaac Newton
• According to his principle, everything in the
universe, whether big or small, exerts gravity on
other things. Since Earth is massive, it strongly
attracts anything on its surface. The same
concept keeps the planets and other heavenly
bodies in place. Since the Sun is more massive
than all the planets, its gravity pulls them into
around its orbit.
• Mass is the measure of how much
matter there is in an object.

• Weight is the measure of the pulling

force of gravity on an object.

Elaborate

Say TRUE if the

statement is correct and
FALSE if it is not.
1. All objects fall toward the center of the
earth.
2. Gravity is the force that attracts and pulls
object to the earth’s surface
3. Gravitational force pulls all things
downward.
4. Objects remain on air if it is thrown
upward.
5. Gravity only affects solid object
What is Gravity?

Gravity is a force that pulls all object

downward.
How would life be without gravity?

Without gravity, there will be no life on earth.

• Perform the experiment at home. And write your observation.

Fill a glass with water and place a piece of

cardboard on top. Hold the cardboard and glass
firmly together, then quickly turn the glass upside
down.

• What happen to the glass and water?

• What is the reason why it happened?
