Biography and Career

 Dorothy Johnson was born August 21, 1919, in Savannah, Georgia. She was the youngest of the seven siblings.
 On June 8, 1942, she received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing, from Vanderbilt University in Tennessee.
 In 1948, she received her Master’s Degree, from Harvard University.
 During her career, Dorothy’s was an assistant professor of pediatric nursing, an associate professor of nursing,
and a professor of nursing at the University of California Los Angeles.
Behavior System Model

Behavioral System, that nurses see their clients as being more important than their illnesses.
The subsystems and their respective goals:
• achievement- to control self and the environment
• affiliate- to achieve intimacy and inclusion.
• aggressive/protective- to protect self or others from objects, persons, or ideas.
• dependency- to obtain attention and assistant
• eliminative- to expel biological wastes
• restorative- to replenish energy distribution.
• sexual- to procreate, to gratify or attack.
Death

 Died on February 4, 1999


 At aged of 79
 In Key Largo, Florida
