What is drought
DISASTER ?
Drought is a condition deficiency supply
of water in area for a prolonged period
(several months to years). Usually this
event occurs when an area continuously
experiences below average rainfall.
Drought .
Classified

Antopogenic
Drought. Natural Drought
Antopogenic Drought.

Anthropogenic drought occurs

because of water demand more than the
water supply. It is happen due to human
disobdience on cropping pattern or water
use pattern and the destruction of water
reservoir area.
Natural Drought.

Natural drought occurs as a

result of the rainfall level is low in one
season. It is caused the supply shortage
of surface water and underground water.

revitalization is an improvement in the flow of rivers

and lakes.
Example: revitalizing the citarum river
Long-Term

Construction of reservoirs, reservoirs and forest improvements

which functions as a water storage during the rainy season and

later can be used as a source of water during the dry season
Example: Construction of the Pidekso Reservoir in Giriwoyo, Wonogiri,

Examples of Drought Cases in seluma

Bengkulu - Dozens of hectares of rain-fed rice fields in the Seluma Regency, Bengkulu, experienced
drought following the dry season began to hit the area.
From the Suara Pembaruan observation, Monday (7/23), it was seen that the farmers' rice fields were
dry and the soil was cracked because they did not get a splash of water.
Likewise, the rice plants in the paddy fields are already dry and yellow. If the rain does not fall in the
near future, certainly the rice crop fails to harvest aka puso.

Likewise, no irrigated rice fields have experienced drought, because the water supply from irrigation to
farmers' fields is still normal. This happens because the flow of irrigation water has not experienced
shrinkage.

However, Ricky Gunarwan urged farmers in Bengkulu to save money using irrigation water in the dry
season, so that the water supply to the community's rice fields continues to run smoothly.

"Thus, rice and other agricultural crops developed by farmers will be protected from the threat of crop
failure alias puso, so that Bengkulu rice production in 2018 will not decrease," he said.
Examples of Drought Cases in Riau

PEKANBARU - The dry season is

starting to hit a number of regions in the
country. In fact, in Riau Province some
regions have experienced extreme
drought, especially in the pesisi area
which is dominated by peatlands.

The impact is not only water shortages, but also triggers the
emergence of dozens of hotspots that have been detected as a cause
of forest and land fires (Karhutla) in the region. At present, he said,
extreme dry weather hit parts of Riau, especially the coastal part. Hot
weather accompanied by strong winds and minimal rainfall made the
majority of peatlands in the coastal areas dry and flammable.
