Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road – ADR (Accord Dangerous Routiere)


Agreement concerning International Carriage of Goods by Road:
• Diver needs to have passed an ADR course in the Class of Dangerous Goods he will be transporting
• When the Class (8 classes) of Dangerous Goods carried is over a certain threshold the vehicle must be adequately signed
• Up to 333L petrol or 1000L diesel can be carried without being an ADR
licenced driver
• 3YE – Emergency Action Code (EAC)
3 – Fire Extinguisher to use
Y – Do not allow to enter drains
E – Evacuate the area
• 1203 – UN number for petrol
• Diamond – Hazard Warning diamond for Flammable Liquids
• Number 3 – Class 3 of 8 Dangerous Goods – Flammable Liquids
• This information is not for the ‘man on the street’ but for the emergency services
• When they arrive at an RTA they know immediately what is being carried and what actions need to be taken
