There are many ways of understanding how the globalization started.

1 : The phenomenon that we call Globalization is “Hardwired” into humans.

• Because humans are natural explorers. Humans move from one place to another.
• Humans gather, leave, or trade things while exploring.

2 : Globalization is just a new cycle.

• Globalization is a Centuries-old phenomenon, and this is just a new cycle;
• As Humans move around, they are gradually expanding and involving more
people in more parts of the world (ex: explorations, silk road, colonization).

3 : Historical events lead to the Contemporary Globalization

1. The spread of religions.

• The spread of Christianity; the spread of Islam in the 7th Century and
beyond, etc.

2. The Travels of the Vikings.
• Believed to be the first to bravely travel by sea.
• They travelled from Europe to Iceland, Greenland, and North America.
• Sought new lands (Raiding, Trading, etc.)

3. Trade in the middle ages throughout the Mediterranean area.
• Mediterranean Region was an important sea route of trade and transport.
• Commercial trade and cultural exchange happened between diverse people
encompassing three continents: Western Asia, Northern Africa, and southern Europe.

4. Financial-Economic Activities.
• of the banks of the 12th century Italian city-state (Venice, Milan, Pisa, etc.)
• They set-up banking systems, and it is related to the trading that happened in the
Mediterranean Area- because they are geographically close.
• And they played a crucial innovative role in financial developments, because they
created the main instruments and practices of banking, and the emergence of new
forms of social and economic organizations..

5. The Silk-Road
• also one of the early trading routes, connecting various settlements.

voyages.

Ferdinand Magellan’s ships.
