RANDOM EXPERIMENT
An experiment / trial that can be repeated numerous times under
the same conditions.
Random Variables
Lesson Proper
Random Variables
• A numerical amount that is derived from the results of an arbitrary
trial or experiment
• A Random Variable is a function that associates a real number with
each element in the sample space. It is a variable whose values are
determined by chance. Thus, in simple words, a Random Variable is a
numerical quantity that is derived from the outcomes of a random
experiment.

Lesson Proper
DISCRETE
RANDOM A discrete random variable is a random
variable whose values represented by count
VARIABLE data. This happens when the set of possible
outcomes from an experiment can be
counted such as can be counted such as the
number of household in a barangay, thus
making the values of the random variable
countable just like whole numbers 0, 1, 2, 3.
Lesson Proper
CONTINUOUS
RANDOM A continuous random variable is a random
variable that takes values on a continuous
VARIABLE scale. This happens when the set of possible
outcomes from an experiment cannot be
counted but can be measured such as
height of Grade 11 students. Continuous
random variables represent measured data
like height, weight and temperature.
Written Work #1
