Western Classical Art Traditions Achitecture
is made of huge
stone blocks which
were probably
intended for
burial.
It
was developed
during pre-
dynastic priod
4,000 BC.
Temples consisted of a
central shrine or room in
an aisle surrounded by
row columns. These
building were design in
three architectural style
orders.
Theybuilt sturdy
stone structures
both for use and to
perpetuate their
glory.
Mosaicdecoration was
perfected by the
byzantines, and use of
clerestory to bring
light from high
windows.
Displayed
solid
masonry walls,
rounded arches
and masonry
vaults.
Thisdesign included
two new devices:
pointed arch which
enabled builders to
construct much higher
ceiling vaults.
