ABSTRACT

Cloud Robotics was born from the merger of service robotics and cloud technologies.
It allows robots to benefit from the powerful computational, storage, and
communications resources of modern data centre's. Cloud robotics allows robots to
take advantage of the rapid increase in data transfer rates to offload tasks without hard
real time requirements. Cloud Robotics has rapidly gained momentum with initiatives
by companies such as Google, Willow Garage and Gostai as well as more than a
dozen active research projects around the world. The presentation summarizes the
main idea, the definition, the cloud model composed of essential characteristics,
service models and deployment models, planning task execution and beyond.

What is robotics?

Robotics is a field of engineering and science that deals with the design,
construction, operation, and use of robots. Robots are machines that can perform tasks
autonomously or semi-autonomously, often with some degree of intelligence and sensing
capabilities. Robotics involves various disciplines such as mechanical engineering,
electrical engineering, computer science, and artificial intelligence to create robots that can
carry out a wide range of functions, from industrial automation to space exploration and
healthcare assistance.
What is Cloud sensing technology?

Cloud sensing technology is a way to use special sensors and tools to learn about
clouds. These sensors can be on the ground, in airplanes, or on satellites, and they help
scientists gather information about clouds, like how thick they are, how high they are, and
what they're made of. This helps us understand weather patterns, predict storms, and study
how clouds affect the Earth's climate.
INTRODUCTION

Cloud robotics, an emerging field intertwined with cloud computing, empowers robots by
harnessing the computational, storage, and communication resources of modern data centers.
When a robot's onboard capacity falls short of computational or storage demands, tasks are
seamlessly offloaded to the cloud, where data center resources supplement their capabilities.
Coined by James Kuffner of Google in 2010, cloud robotics integrates robotics, cloud
computing, deep learning, big data, and IoT, enabling robots to execute functions via internet
connectivity. This distributed model enhances intelligence, affordability, and compactness,
marking a significant advancement in the Robotics Revolution and promising profound impacts
on human lives.

ADVANTAGES
 Offloads the heavy computing tasks to the cloud
 Lower the barrier to entry for robotics
 Scalable CPU, memory, and storage
 shared knowledge databasehardware upgrades are invisible &
hassle-free
 Longer battery life
 Lighter, easier to maintain hardware
 Expanding the knowledge beyond "Physical Body"
DISADVANTAGES

 Cloud robotics is still taking baby steps, so will have to wait for

the platforms to develop.

 Cloud based applications can get slow or simply become

unavailable leaving the robot "brainless".

 Tasks that involve real time execution require onboard

processing.
APPLICATION

 Future robotic applications will benefit from cloud robotics, which provides the following
advantages over traditional networked robots. Ability to offload computation- intensive
tasks to the cloud.
 The robots only have to keep necessary sensors, actuators, and basic processing power to
enable real time actions (e.g., real-time control). The battery life is extended, and the
robotic platform becomes lighter and less expensive with easier to maintain hardware.
 The maintenance of software onboard with the robots also becomes simpler, with less need
for regular updates. As the cloud hardware can be upgraded independently from the robotic
network, the operational life and usefulness of the robotic network can be easily extended
CONCLUSION
This paper presents cloud computing, cloud robotics and cloud interaction of robots. It
surveys cloud platforms and cloud-enabled robotics studies. Standalone robots can
benefit cloud technologies and networked robots can perform collaborative works.
Networked cloud- enabled robots can TTIC, 2017, Vol.1, 27-3332 share computation
resources, information and data with each other and can access new knowledge and
skills not learned by them. This is a new paradigm in robotics that we believe leads to
exciting future developments. Future works can focus on reliable connection, data
offloading methods and ubiquitous networking among robots and cloud services
