An unguided media type of transmission is used for transmitting

electromagnetic waves without utilizing any physical transmission
media. This method is also known as wireless transmission. The
unguided media type includes air as the medium through which
electromagnetic energy can easily flow without any interruption or
hindrance. Radio waves are the electromagnetic waves that are
transmitted in all directions in an omnidirectional manner, meaning
signals are transmitted in all directions and are widely used for
propagating signals in the field of telecommunications. The field of
telecommunications heavily relies on unguided media types.

Microwaves are basically unidirectional
electromagnetic waves with a frequency
range from 1 to 300GHz
Microwaves uses space wave propagation.
The space wave propagation is also called
as line of sight communication.

Microwaves are of two types:

• Terrestrial microwave

• Satellite microwave communication.

RADIO WAVES

• Radio waves are the electromagnetic waves that are

transmitted in all the directions of free space.

• Radio waves are omnidirectional, i.e., the signals are

propagated in all the directions.

• The range in frequencies of radio waves is from 3Khz

to 1 khz.

• In the case of radio waves, the sending and receiving

antenna are not aligned, i.e., the wave sent by the
sending antenna can be received by any receiving
antenna.

• An example of the radio wave is FM radio.
