Introduction

In research we quite often face measurement problem, specially when the concepts
to be measured are complex and abstract and we do not possess the standardized
measurement tool.

This brings us to study the scaling techniques

Scaling

Involves creating a continuum on which measurement of objects are located.

Describes the procedures of assigning numbers to various degrees of opinion,

attitude and other concepts
Example
2 Ways of Scaling

making a judgement about some characteristics of an individual and then

placing him directly on a scale that has been defined in terms of that
characteristics

constructing questionnaires in such a way that the score of individual’s

responses assigns him a place on a scale.
