1- One-way Analysis of Variance

ANOVA: The objective is to analyze the differences among the group means, not the variances.
If we want to compare means of more than two populations, We use Analysis of Variance F test.

You have decided to design an experiment;

- with one factor: different suppliers, types of tires, marketing strategies, brands of
drugs, etc.,

- with several groups (such as four suppliers).

Example: Parachute Company Case Study

You are the production manager of the Perfect Parachute Company. Parachutes are
made using a synthetic fiber purchased from one of four different suppliers. One of
the most important quality characteristics of a parachute is its strength. Are there
any differences in the strength of the parachute that can be attributed to the four
suppliers?

We have decided to design an experiment;

- with one factor: different suppliers
- with several groups (four suppliers).
The five sample is collected from Supplier 1 Supplier 2 Supplier 3 Supplier 4
each supplier. The strength of the

 • The total variation is subdividable into variation that is due to the differences
among the groups and variation that is due to the differences within the groups.
