In history we often refer to CENTURIES. These are periods in history which cover 100 years.

For example:
• We are now in the 21st Century (years 2000 – 2099)
• Last century was the 20th Century (years 1900 – 1999)
• The next century will be the 22nd Century (years 2100-2199)

NOTE that the number in the name of the century (the 16th century, for example) is always
one higher than the number that starts the century's years: the years of the 16th century
start with 15.
