BACKGROUND
Social media allows individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds to interact and exchange cultures. The
individuals involved come from all kinds of ages, ranging from teenagers, adults, to the elderly. The existence of
cultural exchanges on social media allows Indonesian people to better appreciate and tolerate outside cultures and
can integrate outside cultures in everyday life. However, this integrated culture must be in accordance with the
values and norms of Indonesian society. The values and norms in question are those that are positive and can bring
good changes to society. Because as we know that there are many foreign cultures that have a negative impact on the
nation. Call it westernization through social media, where people are influenced to follow the lifestyle of western
countries they see on social media platforms. In addition to westernization, there is now also a Korean wave,
namely the spread of Korean popular culture through entertainment products such as dramas, music, and fashion
trends. If we compare their lifestyle with the lifestyle of the Indonesian people, it has a significant difference.
Automatically, social media can also dilute traditional culture that has been rooted in people's lives. This impact is
widely experienced by adolescents. Many teenagers apply foreign cultures without any filtering first. Especially
with exposure to foreign cultures, many teenagers consider that traditional culture seems old-fashioned rather than
foreign cultures that may look "cool". Of course, this wrong perspective of teenagers must be changed by
themselves.
