Definition of International Relations

 International Relations (IR)” is defined as the interaction of sovereign states and


non-governmental organizations in fields such as politics, economics, and security.
 The first thing to notice is that “international” is composed of two words: the prefix
“inter-”, or “between”, and “national” (referring to nations).

 The nation is commonly defined as a large body of people united by common


descent, history, culture, or language, inhabiting a particular country or territory.
While the state is defined as a political unit that has sovereignty over an area of
territory and the people within it.
