SONGS
These songs are usually
about a particular group of
people, an event, or an
experience.
The central traditions of folk
music are transmitted orally or
aurally, that is, they are
learned through hearing rather
than the reading of words
Folk songs talk about love and
courtship, social concerns,
historical events, and everyday
life experiences.

about a maiden who lost her ring. In English, the title is translated
to, “I had a ring.”)

Original Pilipino Music, more commonly referred
to as OPM, a term coined by Danny Javier of the
APO Hiking Society, originally referred only to
the pop genre of music from the Philippines,
mostly ballads, that became popular after the
collapse of its predecessor, the Manila sound of
the 1970s.
It is a music created, composed, and
sung by artists with Filipino
emotions and experiences. OPM
expresses our identity as a people
and breathes life into stories of love,
hope, and adventure.
