Despite the knowledge that smoking is generally detrimental to the
user’s well-being and health, some nicotine products are less harmful
than others

factors in
consideration
Product Availability
Some of the solutions may be more scarce than others, based on where the consumer
lives.
Consumer Satisfaction
Each product will be evaluated based on the average nicotine levels each product has,
as well as bonuses, such as flavoring, and overall “buzz” effect
Harmfulness
Each product has varying degrees of harmfulness, some yielding to more risk of
diseases, and some being healthier for the long term than others
VAPING OR

E-
CIGARETTES
• Uses a liquid with nicotine, often with flavor additives, and a heating coil to
vaporize the liquid into an inhalable aerosol.
• Not available in Qatar unless imported (price ranges from 100-140 for 8k-14k
puffs)
traditional
cigarettes
• A small, narrow cylinder, typically made of a paper-like substance, containing
rolled tobacco, ignited at one end to produce smoke and inhaled from the end
with a filter
• Small, portable, and easy to use and remain the most popular way to consume
tobacco, readily available in stores in Qatar
• Contain and release toxic chemicals such as acetone, acetic acid, ammonia,
arsenic, butane, formaldehyde, lead, cadmium, toluene, and many more,
leading to cilia and immune system damage, as well as other health
complications
Dokha or pipe
Tobacco
• Loose-leaf tobacco poured into a pipe, lit, and inhaled through a tube with a
filter, readily available in retailers such as Yousef Redah in Qatar
• A serving contains more nicotine than a cigarette, which lends to its popularity
as a nicotine fix (Mahboub et al., 2018)
• Harsher taste of smoke may deter some people from ever trying it, also
contains significantly more tar (mg/g) compared to the other two, which can
lead to health complications (Mahboub et al., 2018).

recommendation
• The best way to consume nicotine through respiratory means is through
vaping.
• Whereas dokha and cigarettes are the most available, they also offer the most
risk to the body, as well as only moderate satisfaction.
• Out of the three, e-cigarettes and vapes are moderately accessible, provide
high consumer satisfaction, as well as the least amount of harmfulness to the
user.
