Gerund

-It is usually defined as a word ending


in –ing that is formed from a verb and
that functions as a noun.
Examples:
1.Swimming is my favorite sport.
2.Getting up early is a good habit.
3.Walking is a good exercise.
Subject
- The person, place, or thing that is
performing the action of the sentence.
Examples:
1.Writing in English is difficult.
2.Watching kdrama is my favorite
pastime.
3.Running is a good for your heart.
Subject Complement
- are words or phrases that rename the
subject of the sentence or describe it
with more details.
Examples:
1.My cat’s favorite activity is
sleeping.
2.One of his duties is doing homework.
3.My new hobby is running.
Preposition
-is a word or group of words used to link nouns, pronouns
and phrases to other words in a sentence.
Object of a Preposition
-a noun (or word/phrase acting as a noun) that works with
a preposition to form a prepositional phrase. The object
is being affected or referenced by the preposition.
Examples:
1. We shall be interested in hearing your comments.
2. Would you like to walk instead of taking the bus?
3. I am interested in improving myself.
4. He quickly resorted to begging.
Direct Object
-are words or phrases that receive the
actions performed by the verb.
Examples:
1.The team practiced kicking.
2.He hates waking up early.
3.He likes writing.
Appositive
- follows a noun or other substantive and
renames it using a different word or words.
Examples:
1.My hobby, swimming, keeps me in shape.
2.My job, teaching students, is rewarding.
3.Ken, the most hardworking student, is
highest academic honoree.
4.Her job, journalizing, is not easy.
