access documents quickly, create
charts and graphs to visualize
project planning, progress, etc., and
collaborate with other people.
HOW DOES A COMPUTER START UP?

The very first step is to turn on the


computer. To do this, locate and press the
power button. It's in a different place on
every computer, but it will have the
universal power button symbol (shown
below). Once turned on, your computer
takes time before it's ready to use.
2 TYPES OF DISKS
1. Hard Disk - A computer hard disk drive
(HDD) is a non-volatile data storage
device. Non-volatile refers to storage
devices that maintain stored data when
turned off. All computers need a storage
device, and HDDs are just one example
of a type of storage device.
2. Floppy Disks -Floppy disks became
commonplace during the 1980s and 1990s in
their use with personal computers to distribute
software, transfer data, and create backups.
Before hard disks became affordable to the
general population, floppy disks were often used
to store a computer's operating system (OS).
3. CD- A compact disc is a portable
storage medium that can record, store
and play back audio, video and other
data in digital form.
CONCEPT OF FILE MANAGEMENT

The process and act of creating an organized


structure in which you store information for easy
retrieval.
WHAT IS FILE?

a folder or box for holding loose papers that are


typically arranged in a particular order for easy
reference.
CREATING A FILE NAME
1.Consider how you want to sort and retrieve your
files. ...
2.Use relevant components in your file names to
provide description and context.
3. Keep the file name a reasonable length.
4. Avoid special characters and spaces.
DIRECTORY
an organizing unit in a computer's file
system for storing and locating files. In a
hierarchical file system, directories can
contain child directories (subdirectories )
as well as files.
TYPES OF FILES
1. Data File -A data file is any file containing information, but not code; it is
only meant to be read or viewed and not executed. For example, this web
page, a letter you write in a word processor, and a text file are all considered
data files.
PROGRAM FILES
Program Files is the directory name of a standard folder in
Microsoft Windows operating systems in which
applications that are not part of the operating system are
conventionally installed
1. BATCH-we will learn how to create, save, execute, and
modify batch files. Creating Batch Files. Batch files are normally
created in notepad.
2. System- A system file in computers is a critical computer file
without which a computer system may not operate correctly. These
files may come as part of the operating system, a third-party device
driver or other sources.
3.An executable file (EXE file) is a computer file that contains an
encoded sequence of instructions that the system can execute directly
when the user clicks the file icon.
WORKING WITH WINDOWS
Opening an Object Whenever you open a program, file, or folder, it appears on your
screen in a box or frame called a window (that’s where the Windows operating
system gets its name). Because windows are everywhere in Windows, it’s important
to understand how to move them, change their size, or just make them go away.

CREATE A FOLDER AND DOCUMENTS

1. Select Start.
2.Enter "WordPad" in the search box.
3. A list of search results will appear on the Start Menu.
Select the WordPad app to launch WordPad.

Creating Folder
1. With your document open, click File>Save As.
2. Under Save As, select where you want to create your
new folder. You might need to click Browse or
Computer, and navigate to the location for your new
folder.
3. In the Save As dialog box that opens, click New
Folder.
4. TYPE THE NAME OF YOUR FOLDER, AND
PRESS ENTER.

5. Click Save. Your document is saved to the


new folder.
