WHAT DOES JURAT MEAN?

Jurat is Latin for “to swear.”

A Jurat is a certificate attached to an

affidavit or deposition to signify that the
affidavit or deposition was properly made
before a duly authorized officer.
 WHAT IS THE USES OF JURAT?

Jurat is used for affidavits (such as affidavit
of death) or to swear that certain facts are
02 true. The signer needs to appear in front of
the notary to take the oath.

 THE PURPOSE
The purpose of a Jurat is for a signer to swear or affirm
that the contents of a document are true. Depending on
the jurisdiction, it also can be known as an affidavit or a
verification on oath or affirmation. For a Jurat, the
signer must personally appear before you and sign the
document in your presence.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE
BETWEEN A JURAT AND
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT?
An acknowledgment is the act of one who has executed
a deed in going before some competent officer or court
and declaring it to be his act or deed; while a Jurat is
that part of an affidavit where the officer certifies that
the same was sworn before him
