In this class, we will explore the artistic
movement that is surrealism, from where
and how it started up to its modern
developments.
Who is André Breton?
We will be exploring the publication of the
Manifesto of Surrealism by the poet and critic
André Breton, and how it started the surrealism
movement.

Defining Surrealism
An overview of surrealism, how to recognize
surrealist art, and how it's different from other
art styles.
Characteristics of
Surrealism
We will discuss surrealist art in a more
in-depth manner, helping you easily
identify its main tenets and create your
Famous Surrealists
own pieces.

A rundown of artists who


pioneered the movement, along
with their groundbreaking art
pieces.
Write your own manifesto

For this activity, create your own one-page manifesto in the form of an
essay or a poem instead of an art piece. It should contain statements that
demonstrate your view on questions like:
What inspires you?
What do you deem as valuable?
What is your approach to creativity?
What major changes would you like to
see in the world?
Surrealist Artworks
We will be exploring both popular and underrated
surrealist artworks
by both old and contemporary artists.

Future of Surrealism
We will be discussing the modern art scene and
find out if surrealism has a place in it
and if it's here to stay.
Sketch Assignment
Look at your favorite surrealist art to inspire you to create your own surrealist-
type piece. Illustrate your own artwork using any media.

Write a brief 100-word paragraph describing your work.
