INTRODUCTION
• In hierarchical organization Employers and employees may both
benefit as it helps guide a company's path. However, an
organization's hierarchical culture occasionally has the potential to
be overly rigid, which can disrupt innovation and creative thinking
and ultimately disrupt the success of the business.
• A well-considered explanation for natural world observations that
has been developed through the scientific method and synthesizes
numerous facts and hypotheses is called a theory.
1. Frederick Taylor (1911) Scientific Management theory.
2. Max Weber (1947) bureaucratic management theory
ORGANIZATION
Organization characteristics of most SA schools
Three levels comprise the system
1.Basic education training
2. Advanced education training
3. Higher education training
The procedure covers 12 grades in total and is required up until
grade 9. in primary school, is where literacy and numeracy are
established for the first six years of education
Why are our schools organized
hierarchically
• Clear authority structure : command and establishes clear lines of
authority and responsibility. This ensures that decisions can be made
efficiently and effectively.
• Division of labour : a hierarchical structure allows for specialized roles
and expertise. Different positions within the hierarchy have specific job
descriptions and responsibilities, ensuring that each individual
contributes to the overall functioning of the school.
• Supervision and accountability: ensures supervision at various levels,
promoting accountability within the organisation
• Resources allocation : helps in efficient allocation of resources in
school.
WHAT DO WE NEED TO DO TO CHANGE OUR ORGANIZATIONS
INTO MORE APPROPRIATE ORGANIZATIONS
• Empower leadership at all levels : distribute leadership
responsibilities throughout the organization.
• Encourage student voice and involvement : create avenues for
learners to effectively participate in decision-making activities.
• Redesign decision-making processes : move away from top-down
decision-making and involve various stakeholders in decision-
making processes.
Differences between Frederick Taylor and
Max Weberr
Frederick Taylor Max Weber
• Focuses on the scientific study Focuses on the concept of
of work methods to improve rational legal authority and the
productivity and efficiency division of labor
• Emphasizes the use of time Emphasizes the importance of
motion studies to identify the hierarchy, rules and impersonal
most efficient way to perform relationships within an
tasks organization
continues

Taylor Weber
• Advocates for a close • Advocates for a clear chain of
coorperation between command and standardized
management and workers to procedures to achieve
ensure that tasks are in organizational efficiency.
performed in the best possible
way.
Similarities between Frederick Taylor and
Max Weber Theories
• Both Taylor and Weber advocate a system based on standardization
procedures and a clear chain of command, and they both stressed
efficiency but Weber also pointed out the dangers a true
bureaucracy could face
• Both bureaucratic and scientific models are common in the
manufacturing and industrial space , where output is calculated and
monitored, The administrative and human relations models are far
more common in accounting firms , tech and startups and in small
business
IN ORDER FOR SCHOOLS IN SA TO BE IN SYNCHRONIZATION
WITH THE CHANGING NATURE OF WORK, THEY WOULD:

• NEED TO ADAPT TO NEW TECHNOLOGIES AND TEACHING METHODS THAT ARE RELEVANT TO
TODAY’S WORKFORCE.
• THIS COULD INCLUDE INCORPORATING DIGITAL LITERACY AND CODING SKILLS INTO THE
CURRICULUM, PROVIDING STUDENTS WITH OPPORTUNITIES FOR HANDS-ON LEARNING
EXPERIANCES, AND PROMOTING CRITICAL THINKING AND PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS.
• ADDITIONALLY, SCHOOLS COULD COLLABORATE WITH LOCAL BUSINESSES AND
ORGANIZATIONS TO OFFER INTERNSHIPS AND JOB SHADOWING OPPORTUNITIES, GIVING
STUDENTS REAL-WORLD EXPERIENCE AND HELPING THEM MAKE INFORMED DECISIONS
ABOUT THEIR FUTURE CAREERS.
• OVERALL, A SCHOOL THAT IS SYNC WITH THE CHANGING NATURE OF WORK WOULD
PRIORITIES PREPARING STUDENTS FOR THE DEMANDS OF THE MODERN WORKPLACE AND
EQUIPPPING THEM WITH THE SKILLS THEY NEED TO SUCCEED IN A RAPIDLY EVOLVING JOB
MARKET.
