Reader’s Theater After School Acting
Program
This course is offered to first - fifth grade students at our charter school.

It will be offered after school on Thursdays. Student will have many expectations during the program.

Inquiry Question:
How can I, as an educator, enrich student engagement in
skills and content that support public speaking skills and
professionalism through a reader’s theater program?
A bit about the program:
● Students will be performing: The Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
○ 6 different scenes (1. Once Upon a Time, 2. Rabbit’s House, 3. Piglet’s House, 4. Eeyore’s Tail,
5. A Very Strange Creature, 6. Time to Party)
● Multiple characters - Each student will have a role in the play
● School community is invited to performance date (Families, parents,
staff, teachers, administrators, etc.)

● Students will attend 10 sessions of practices - during each practice, we will


rehearse lines, practice the script, act out each scene, etc.
Sessions Layout
● Session 1 - Learn about play and pick roles
● Session 2 - Practice reading the script as a whole group
● Session 3 - Practice reading script with sounds and music, practice acting
techniques
● Session 4 - Start acting out roles while reading scripts, start creating costumes
● Session 5 - Script should be well known by now, act out scenes 1, 2 and 3,
finish costume creations
● Session 6 - Act out scenes 4, 5, and 6, finishing touches on costumes
● Session 7 - Act out scenes 1, 2, and 3 with areas to improve
● Session 8 - Act out scenes 4, 5, and 6 with areas to improve
● Session 9 - Act out all scenes as a dress rehearsal
● Session 10 - Full dress rehearsal with sounds, music and acting
Program Objectives
● Support student engagement in after school programs, educate
students on the performing arts, connect the arts to our STEAM
school
Standards
● Teacher Leader Standard: Domain VI: Improving outreach and collaboration with families and community
- Family engagement is one way we promote our school of choice. Implementing new programs to support
family engagement will provide more opportunities for prospective families to join our community.
● NBPTS: Proposition 1 Teachers are committed to students and their learning. - This after school program is
an extra amount of time and commitment I am giving to the school.
● CSTP: 1.3 Connect subject matter to meaningful, real-life contexts. - Students will learn how to act
through the performance and use their knowledge of subject matter content to enhance student
involvement.

I am very excited to bring the Arts to my school. I grew up in a very


artistic and musically inclined family and have always been
interested in the arts.
