Proverbs 12:28 & Matthew 6:33

• Proverbs 12:28 In the way of
righteousness is life; and in
the pathway thereof there is no
death.

• Matthew 6:33 But seek ye

first the kingdom of God, and
his righteousness; and all
these things shall be added
unto you.
INTRODUCTION

• Romans 14:17 For the kingdom of God is not

meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace,
and joy in the Holy Ghost.
• Paul is trying to teach Christians to stop judging
each other regarding secondary matters of
religious practice about food and holy days. Paul is
talking to committed disciples and he told them to
focus on peace, upbuilding and avoiding quarrels.
• What does righteousness, peace and joy in the
Holy Ghost mean?
• It means that the Christian must so live as to be
righteous , and not a man whose whole attention is
absorbed by ceremonies and outward forms of
religion. It means a life consumed by devotion to
God, and seeking to spend as much time as
possible with Him
A.THE PROBLEM TO RIGHTEOUSNESS

Romans 3:10 As it is written, There is

none righteous, no, not one:
1. SINFULNESS.
Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the
glory of God;
2. SHORTNESS. (…and come short of the glory of God;)
Matthew 5:20 For I say unto you, That except your
righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes
and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of
heaven.
3. SELF – CENTEREDNESS.
Romans 10:3 For they being ignorant of God's righteousness,
and going about to establish their own righteousness, have
not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.

B.THE PROCESS TO RIGHTEOUSNESS
Romans 5:18 Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to
condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all
men unto justification of life.
1. THE TASK TO RIGHTEOUSNESS. (Believe and Accept the Lord Jesus
Christ as Your Lord and Savior)
Romans 10:4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every
one that believeth.
2. THE TOOL TO RIGHTEOUSNESS. (Believe and Apply the Word of God in
your Life.)
2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is
profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in
righteousness:
3. THE TEST TO RIGHTEOUSNESS. (Believe and Abide to God in all
circumstances in Life.)
1 Peter 3:14 But and if ye suffer for righteousness' sake, happy are ye: and
be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled;
Hebrews 12:11 Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous,
but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of
righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.
C.THE PRODUCT OF RIGHTEOUSNESS
Philippians 1:11 Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ,
unto the glory and praise of God.

1. AN EFFECTIVE CHRISTIAN LIFE.

2Timothy 2:22 Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith,
charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

a. IN GOD’S ANSWER TO OUR PRAYER.

Psalms 34:15 The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and his
ears are open unto their cry.
b. IN GOD’S ABIDING PROTECTION.
Job 36:7 He withdraweth not his eyes from the righteous: but with
kings are they on the throne; yea, he doth establish them for ever,
and they are exalted.
c. IN GOD’S ABOUNDING PROVISION.
Psalms 37:25 I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not
seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.
C.THE PRODUCT OF RIGHTEOUSNESS
Philippians 1:11 Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ,
unto the glory and praise of God.

2. AN EDEFYING CHRISTIAN LIFE.

Proverbs 8:8 All the words of my mouth are in righteousness; there is
nothing froward or perverse in them.
Ephesians 4:29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your
mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may
minister grace unto the hearers.

3. AN EXALTED NATION.
Proverbs 14:34 Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach
to any people.
CONCLUSION

• The only way for sinners like you and me to be righteous before
God is through faith in Christ Jesus.

• When we believe the Word of God which tells us that Christ fulfilled
all righteousness for us and then was sacrificed for us to make full
atonement for all our sins, God credits it to us for righteousness.

• Proverbs 12:28 In the way of righteousness is life; and in

the pathway thereof there is no death.

• The path of righteousness is to walk by God's side, to be committed

to Him, to be loyal and faithful to Him.
