ANALYTIC SCORING

PRESENTED BY: MICHEL JAY A. ESPULGAR

AND REY M. CABAYLO
OBJECTIVES:
At the end of 15 minutes lesson, 80% of the student in the class can:
 Explore the rubrics for a final research paper,
 differentiate the 3 types of test scoring; and,
 identify the types of criterion scores.
What is Analytic Scoring?
 Analytic scoring can involves assessing each aspect to a performance task
and assigning a score for each criterion. Sometimes, an overall score is given
by averaging the scores in all criteria. Analytical scoring also provides
information that can be used as diagnostic as it presents learners’ strength
and weaknesses and in what area’s and eventually as basis for remedial
instruction.
The table below is an example of analytic scoring for a research paper.

What is Primary Trait Scoring?

 Primary Trait Scoring focuses on only one aspect or criterion of task, and a
learners performance is evaluated on only trait. This scoring system defines a
primary trait in the test that will then be scored. One disadvantage of this
scoring scheme is that it is often difficult to focus exclusively on one trait,
such that other traits may be included when scoring.
The table below shows an example Primary Trait Scoring
system.
What is multiple-trait scoring?

 Multiple-trait scoring is a scoring system that requires that an assay test or

performance task is scored on more aspects, with scoring criteria in place so
that they are consistent with the prompt. It is similar to analytic scoring that
evaluates more traditional and genetic dimensions of language production, be
scored vary from task to task.. Multiple-trait scoring also focuses on specific
features or performance required to fulfill the given task or tasks.
Advantages and disadvantages

Advantages:
 Multiple-trait scoring doesn’t trait all writing as the same.
 Providing the teacher has discussed the scoring criteria with the class before
the exam.

Disadvantages:
 Can be extreme time consuming.
 Scoring criteria should need to be extensively piloted.
