By V. Aparajith About Sundarakandam Sundara – means beautiful
As the name suggests, Sundarakandam is the
most beautiful part of Ramayana
It covers the part where Hanuman crosses the
sea and meets Seeta, fights with the asuras, sets Lanka on fire and gets back to Rama to tell him that Seeta has been found
Hanuman is the hero of this kanda of
Ramayana Ch-49 -Seeta in the Ashoka Vana Hanuman was standing on the wall of the Asoka park - the only place he had not searched Seeta for, in the whole of Lanka.
Suddenly a thrill of joy went through him. He
realised that he must be near Seeta.
There he found a lady crying and surrounded
by monsters.
Hanuman realised that it was Seeta.
Ch-49 -Seeta in the Ashoka Vana At dawn, Ravana was roused from slumber hearing the chanting of Vedas.
He immediately thought of Seeta
and came to see her.
Along with him came maidens and
damsels with scented torches. Ch-50- Ravana’s Solicitation Seeta plunged into the sea of sorrow thinking of Rama. She trembled at the sight of Ravana
Ravana spoke to her with admiration,
stating that he could not take his eyes off her and her face was like a full moon.
He said that he would conquer the
whole world for her! Ch-50- Ravana’s Solicitation Seeta asked Ravana in turn how could she become a wife of his while she was already Rama’s.
She also told him not to violate
dharma by his desire to marry her.
But once again Ravana spoke of
why she liked Rama.
He gave her 2 months to make
her choice. Ch-51- First among the astute Seeta had been waiting month after month for Rama to arrive.
She had been living only in faith of
Rama.
The demons filled her with what they
thought as ‘Wise counsel’.
They advised her to listen to Ravana
But Seeta ignored everything and kept
sobbing about Rama. Ch-51- First among the astute She thought why Rama had not come to save her.
She thought whether it was
because he didn’t know where she was? or was it because Rama had died because he could not bear her loss?
She kept thinking about Rama.
Meanwhile Hanuman planned that he would sing of Rama to get her attention. To be continued….. Thank you
