CONDITIONAL CLAUSE

• 1. Future Conditional clause
• Pattern :
• Subject + will + (not) + verb-1 + if + Subject + verb-1(s/es)
• can Subject + do/does + not + verb-1
• shall Subject + be = am/are/is + (not) ...
• may
• must
Examples :
• 1. I will come if I have time tomorrow
• 2. We will get good marks if we study hard.
• 3. He will buy a bicycle if he has enough money.
• 4. If John does not come late, the teacher will not be angry.
• 5. If you do not invite her, she will not come at your party tonight

• Keterangan :
• 1. Induk kalimat pada Future Conditional Clause harus menggunakan
• Future Tense atau Present Modal, sedangkan pada anakkalimatnya
• (if clause) harus menggunakan Present Tense.
• 2. Keterangan waktu yang digunakan didalam Future Conditional Clause
• harus waktu yang akan datang (Future Time).
2. Present Conditional Clause.
• Pattern :
• Subject + would + (not) + verb-1 + if + Subject + verb-2
• could Subject + did + not + verb-1
• should Subject + be = were + (not)
• might

• Examples :
• 1. They would play football if it did not rain.
• = They do not play football because it rains.
• 2. She would come to the party if they invited her.
• = She does not come to the party because they do not invite her.
• 3. He would pass the examination if he studied hard.
• = He does not pass the examination because he does not study hard.
• 4. If she brought an umbrella, she would not get wet.
• = She does not bring an umbrella, so she gets wet.
• 5. If the manager were in today, we could meet him.
• = The manager is not in today, so we cannot meet him.
Keterangan :

• 1. Induk kalimat pada Present Conditional Clause harus


• menggunakan Past Future Tense atau Past Modal,
• sedangkan pada anak kalimatnya (if clause) harus
• menggunakan Past Tense, dan apabila kata kerja yang
• digunakan adalah to be, maka kita harus menggunakan
• to be were untuk semua subyek.
• 2. Keterangan waktu yang digunakan didalam Present
• Conditional Clause harus waktu sekarang (Present
• Time).
3. Past Conditional Clause.
• Pattern :
• Subject + would + (not) + have + verb-3 + if + Subject + had + (not) + verb-3
• could
• should
• might

• Examples :
• 1. He would have submitted it to you if he had done it.
• = He did not submit it to you because he did not do it.
• 2. They would not have failed if they had worked hard.
• = They failed because they did not work hard.
• 3. He would have gone around the world if he had been rich.
• = He did not go around the world because he was not rich
• 4. If I had known about it, I would have told you.
• = I did not know about it, so I did not tell you.
• 5. If she had come, we would have been happier.
• = She did not come, so we were not happier.
Keterangan :
• 1. Induk kalimat pada Past Conditional Clause harus
• menggunakan Past Future Perfect Tense atau Past
• Modal Perfect Tense, sedangkan pada anak kalimatnya
• (if clause) harus menggunakan Past Perfect Tense.
• 2. Keterangan waktu yang digunakan didalam Past
• Conditional Clause harus waktu lampau (Past Time).

• Give the right form of the verb in brackets !

• on the hill-side.

1. Present Conditional Clause without if
Pattern :

• 1. Had I to go, I would go now
• = I do not have to go, so I do not go now
• 2. Had he not enough time, he would not come
• = He ha s enough time, so he comes
• b. Were + Subject + (not) + Adjective + Subject + would + (not) + Verb-1

• Examples :
• 1. Were she sick, she would stay in bed
• = She is not sick, so she does not stay in bed
• 2. Were the manager not in today, we would not meet him
• = The manager is in today, so we meet him
2. Past Conditional Clause without if
• Pattern :
• Had + Subject + (not) + V-3 ….. + Subject + would + (not) + have + Verb-3
• could
• should
• might
• Examples :
• 1. Had he studied hard, he would have passed the exam
• = He did not study hard, so he did not pass the exam
• 2. Had it not rained hard, we would have gone to see the film
• = It rained hard, so we did not go to see the film
• 3. Had he known about it, he would have told us.
• = He did not know about it, so he did not tell us
• 4. Had the dead man been able to speak, he would have told us who murdered
• him
• = The dead man was not able to speak, so he did not tell us who murdered him
• 5. Had you invited him, he would have come
• = You did not invite him, so he did not come
Task : 4
• Change the following sentences into conditional clause “without if “ !
• Example :
• I would have gone if the weather had been fine
• A. = Had the weather been fine, I would have gone
• B. Fact : The weather was not fine, so I did not go
