• 2010 – A revolution in the smartphone category, as internet connectivity, cell phones

and cellular data became widely available.

• According to the Internet and Mobile Association of India, in 2010, internet users were
100 million and today in 2024, there are 820 million active internet users.

• The Commerce Department shows that the export of electronic items saw a YoY gain of
50.52% between April-March 2023, smartphones accounted for a significant portion of
India's exports of electronics items, which totalled US$ 9.3 billion from April-February
2023.

• India exported Rs 82,000 crores worth of mobile phones in FY23

• In FY24 and the next several years, a 25% rise in exports is feasible, provided that companies other than
Apple and Samsung are accelerating.

• Language, caste, class, gender, and geographic boundaries in India are being eroded by internet-enabled
smartphones at a level that was unthinkable a few years ago.
