What is 5G technology?

◉ 5G is the 5th generation mobile network.

◉ It is a new global wireless standard after 1G, 2G, 3G, and 4G networks.
◉ 5G enables a new kind of network that is designed to connect virtually everyone
and everything together including machines, objects, and devices.
Is 5G Hazard to health ?
◉ The cell towers may use high frequency signals to get large amount data. It also
requires many cell towers. Experts claim that health worse off in persons residing
near mobile towers.
◉ The electromagnetic force cause inflammations, disrupting the circadian rhythm
of organic living beings.
◉ It may also cause heart problems, dizziness, nausea, anxiety and depression.
Also researches have predicted that the radiations penetrates into tissues and
affect the nervous system. It also causes skin diseases including cancers in
prolonged use.
◉ Despite humans, the electromagnetic radiations also cause impacts in birds and
their nesting behavior, in growth of trees and plants. And cause impact in natural
habitat.
Is 5G better than 4G LTE?

◉ 5G is significantly faster than 4G

◉ 5G has more capacity than 4G
◉ 5G has significantly lower latency than 4G
◉ 5G is a unified platform that is more capable than 4G
◉ 5G uses spectrum better than 4G
Pros and Cons of 5G Technology

Coverage vs Capacity
◉ The signal bars on your phone are a measure of ◉ Each new generation operates at a higher frequency
how good your coverage is. Your phone range. 5G operates at a higher frequency than 4G. The
communicates with the nearest radio-mast and higher the frequency of operation, the faster the
decodes the “signal” from it. Radio-masts are the internet speeds. This is why 5G is faster than 4G,
giant, ugly antennas you see on buildings and which is faster than 3G and so on. The maximum
internet speed is called capacity. Higher capacity
rooftops. In the middle of nowhere, your phone
ensures internet access in crowded stadiums and
cannot find a radio-mast and hence has no
shopping malls, for example. Because of the physics of
coverage. Every form of communication though radiation, higher frequencies equal faster internet
needs a medium. In this case, it’s simply the air. speeds. But here’s the rub: higher frequencies means
But if all the phones use the same air to contact the lower coverage. So, 5G radio-masts have a much
radio-mast, how does the mast differentiate smaller coverage footprint than 4G. For all mobile
between phones? Frequency. Specific networks, there exists an inverse relationship between
technologies - 5G, 4G, 3G - have specific coverage and capacity. Do you want faster internet?
frequencies on which they operate. So, a 5G phone You’ll have lower coverage. Do you want more
“talks” to the 5G radio-mast using a particular coverage? You’ll have to make do with lower speeds.
frequency range You can’t get both.
What about voice?

◉ So far, we’ve only talked about faster internet speeds. But a significant percentage
of phone users today use their phones as exactly that - a phone. Although voice call
traffic has seen a steady decline over the years, it’s still a hefty chunk. What does
5G do to help? Absolutely nothing. Well, that’s unfair. Absolutely nothing, directly.
◉ Indirectly though, the rollout of 5G networks will help ease the burden of carrying
voice and data on legacy 4G and 3G networks. How? As 5G capable phones
become commonplace and 5G coverage improves, more of the data traffic will be
carried on 5G. Thus, leaving plenty of space on 2G, 3G and 4G for carrying voice
traffic. For customers, this would mean faster call set-up times, fewer call drops
and better voice quality.
Is 5G boon or bane?

◉ The telecommunication companies claim to provide faster internet and the user
demand over bandwidth.
◉ Rural areas would also get internet service.5G technology requires small cell
towers to be deployed closer to users with more antennas to expand its data-
intensive coverage.
◉ There are possibilities that 5G networks are more hack-able because it’s
connected and integrated.
◉ Although there are various confusions over the need, safety, and efficiency of 5G
network various countries have declared the technology as safe and
implemented. It is also ready to hit the market.
Competition, costs, and regulation of the 5G network
◉ Hardly surprising, cost is a significant factor. Depending on the adoption rate of Wi-Fi 6 and 5G in the business-to-
business (B2B) and business-to-consumer (B2C) markets, scale is likely to determine the cost of installing and
deploying these competing technologies. It will be interesting to chart the B2C mass adoption rate for each
technology. While households are likely to install Wi-Fi 6 and popular smartphones such as the iPhone 11 support
it, telecom operators will be driving the 5G expansion across their mobile offerings. In addition to the cost of the
chipsets, reduced power consumption will be essential to mobile and battery-operated devices—already a
significant challenge in many other Internet of Things scenarios.
◉ The regulatory framework is another factor. There may be relevant 5G network differences depending on whether
national regulatory agencies decide to allocate a dedicated 5G spectrum frequency to private networks. In
countries with a dedicated local network 5G spectrum, one can expect a much more reliable network than with Wi-
Fi 6. In countries without a dedicated 5G spectrum, private networks will use public frequencies that are shared
with all other users across the country, and network slicing has to be used to ensure quality on 5G.
◉ Wireless technology has many advantages, and costs will go down as the adoption rate goes up in a variety of B2B
settings. However, wired technology will likely remain the most economical choice—and certainly the most reliable
one—for industrial sites with static equipment since wireless technology is inherently more vulnerable to network
performance hampering
